The shelter will be open for five months this winter, from November 1, 2007 through April 1, 2008. We need your help to care for our homeless brothers and sisters this year. Find out more about becoming a volunteer.
As the Cathedral for the Diocese of Owensboro, Saint Stephen is also an active and vibrant parish offering a full range of ministries, services, and activities. Many parishioners are involved in the parish's organizations and committees, such as the religious education program, ministry to the sick and homebound, or one of the pastoral committees. The parish tries to make joyful dignified liturgy and worship one of the chief characteristics of our faith community.
Happy Thanksgiving to every one of you! Among the many blessings for which I shall thank God on Thursday is the fact that I am the pastor of this wonderful faith community. Through the years you have strengthened my faith and helped me to grow into the man and priest I am today. I am so blessed to be a part of your lives and your families. Please join us for our Thanksgiving Mass at eight oclock on Thursday morning. The turkey and dressing will taste even better after feasting first on the Bread and Wine of the heavenly banquet.
As you are aware, we are in process of our annual Stewardship Commitment. Thanks to our Stewardship Committee, to those giving witness talks this weekend, and to all who are making a commitment to our parish. Please stand up and be counted and return your form to us next week. In the past we have had to beg and plead for weeks before we get back a significant number of commitments. A parish is not simply the place where we stop in for weekly spiritual refreshment, but also the community to which we commit ourselves (time, talent, treasure) in order that we may fulfill our mission. We need you!
On Thanksgiving morning, we will be receiving your donations of food to our parish pantry. This, too, is an act of good stewardship. We ask that you bring them to the altar during the Preparation of the Gifts rather than before Mass begins. If you cannot bring your gift on Thanksgiving morning, we will be happy to receive them next Sunday.
If you are traveling over the holiday, may the angels keep you safe and bless you with joy. Love, Fr. John
Sunday Childcare Every Sunday at the 9:00am Mass, childcare is available in the Saint Stephen Cathedral Preschool building.
Welcome New Members!
Welcome to St. Stephen Cathedral Parish Family! We are glad you have chosen us as your faith community. We look forward to getting to know you and to help you feel part of this parish family as quickly as possible.
Members of our committee contact new members monthly by phone and mail. Enclosed in the welcome note is a coupon for Great Harvest Whole Wheat bread , a symbol of our breaking bread together as a people of God. From time to time there will be gatherings which will help you feel more "rooted". We are family...welcome!
We welcome any questions concerning worship or ministries and invite you to check out the Monthly Calendar of events on line at this same address. The weekly Sunday bulletin also has the names and phone numbers of parish staff, parish pastoral council and parish ministries and they welcome all calls. Our Sunday bulletin is full of information and there is a weekly review of events also.
We look forward to sharing and celebrating Gods love with you , our newest members of our Catholic community.
