While some builders prefer quantity to quality, it's sure not true with Blacksmith Homes. Owner Dave Smith's promise to any customer is that their home will have the best quality possible. "You can find cheaper homes, but as they say, you get what you pay for," Dave Smith said. We are currently building homes in Mansfield Estates, Locust Creek and Warren Place.

"My father was an electrician, so I was helping him by the time I was eight years old. Then I worked in a factory and in trucking for a while, but I came back to building. I built my first home in 1979, and I've been doing it ever since," Dave Smith said. "I've been involved in a lot of projects over the years."
In 1990, Dave and his wife Linda Smith decided to take on another venture and started Blacksmith Homes. "We build quality homes for people. We don't take shortcuts. If someone wants to save money, we have to eliminate something from the home. My name is on that home so I don't believe in cutting corners," Dave added.
Unlike many builders, Blacksmith Homes has found a plan that equals success. "I like to do my own developments. That allows me to control the quality of the surrounding homes. I don't want another builder coming in and building a cheap home next to one of mine," Dave Smith said. "If I can't get a whole development, then I try to at least buy one whole street. This also prevents me from spreading myself too thin. I don't have to worry about driving across town and losing valuable time."
Don't get the impression that Blacksmith Homes only does developments. They will gladly travel to build your home wherever you would like it. "We build mostly in the Jeffersontown and Middletown areas. However, we have built in Oldham, Spencer, Shelby and Bullitt Counties," Dave added.
Blacksmith Homes builds both spec and contract homes. You choose the price you want depending on the home you like. "I usually tell my customers to find some different homes in the area that they like. Then I put those aspects of the homes they like together to give them the home they dream of," Dave Smith said. "I have about five main plans that I build from. However, I am always looking for new designs that allow me to keep up with style and trends."
When you decide to buy a Blacksmith home, you'll be happy with the final product. "A lot of people ask me why they should choose me as a builder when another builder can give them more home for less money. I tell them that you don't buy a car by the pound, so why would you buy a home by the square footage? Some builders can cut a lot out of a home by building it cheap. It looks great when it's brand new, but later all the flaws come out. All the things that you don't see really do matter. My home may be smaller compared to some competitor's home for the same price, but mine will last. I know that the customer will be happy--then they remember me if they decide to build another home in the future. Most of our customers come to us by referral or following," Dave Smith said.
A FAMILY OPERATION
If there is one thing Blacksmith Homes believes in besides quality homes, it's the families that live in those homes. "God and family are important to us," Dave Smith said. Not only does his wife Linda work with him, so do his three daughters. "My daughters greet customers in the model homes. They are there to answer questions a customer may have. If the customer is interested in learning more, my daughters contact me. My customers deal with me and my two sons-in-law when building a home," Dave added.
When Dave and Linda Smith aren't building homes, you can find them outside riding across the country on Dave's Harley Davidson motorcycle. "We've ridden through the Keys, out West, and all over," Dave said. Other times you will find them spending time with their three daughters and their husbands, and their grandchildren.
