The Eye Care Institute is the best in LASIK laser vision correction procedures.
John C. Meyer, MD has performed over 4,000 laser vision correction procedures. He first used the excimer laser while completing his Fellowship in Refractive Surgery and Corneal Diseases at Emory University during 1994 and 1995. As such, he is one of the first doctors in the county to have had access to an excimer laser. LASIK is a great option but we also offer many other vision correction procedures that may be right for you.
The most common symptom of a cataract is blurred vision which cannot be corrected by glasses. Many people with cataracts will notice trouble driving at night due to glare from headlights and street lamps. As there are many causes of blurred vision, an eye doctor should examine your eyes to determine the cause of your symptoms.
What Causes Glaucoma?
Glaucoma is a group of diseases of the optic nerve (the nerve that connects the eye to the brain). In glaucoma, the optic nerve becomes progressively damaged, leading to a loss of sight. Untreated glaucoma can lead to blindness.
Glaucoma is usually associated with an elevated pressure of the eye, but there are many people who show evidence of glaucoma damage with normal pressures. Likewise, many people have what are considered high intraocular pressures with no signs of glaucoma.
What Causes Macular Degeneration?
Age Related Macular Degeneration, also referred to as ARMD, or simply macular degeneration, occurs when the cells in the macula break down causing vision loss in the central part of the field of vision. Most often ARMD is a slow, progressive and painless disease affecting both eyes. There are two main types of ARMD: Dry (atrophic) ARMD and Wet (exudative) ARMD.
How does Diabetes affect the eye?
The retina, a tissue that lines the back of the eye, is the part of the eye that senses light and sends visual information to the brain. The retina is supplied by blood vessels, arteries and veins which carry vital nutrients within the blood stream. The retinal blood vessels may be affected by diabetes just as in other parts of the body. It is primarily these changes in the blood vessels that lead to problems in the eyes of people with diabetes.
