For over three decades, Lexington Clinic, Central Kentucky's oldest and largest multi-specialty medical group, has been providing medical and radiation oncology services to Central and Eastern Kentucky.
Lexington Clinic's commitment to excellence in cancer treatment began in 1971, when John D. Cronin, M.D. joined Lexington Clinic and began the Hematology Section. Dr. Cronin was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and completed fellowship training at the University of Michigan in Hematology and Oncology, making him the only trained oncologist in Kentucky east of Louisville.
In 1983, In an effort to provide better service to a growing patient base, Lexington Clinic opened the Lexington Radiation Therapy Center. Lexington Clinic's continuing pursuit of the highest quality medical care has kept our organization on the cutting edge of technology and medicine. In 1999, Lexington Clinic began working towards the development of a full-service cancer center providing the highest quality patient care and cancer treatment services to Central and Eastern Kentucky. On November 11, 2001, chemotherapy was combined with radiation therapy into a single full-service department. In November 2005, the center was re-dedicated as The John D. Cronin Cancer Center.
As the first radiation oncology center in Central Kentucky to be accredited by American College of Radiology (ACR), The John D. Cronin Cancer Center has a longstanding history of providing our communities with compassionate, high quality care and state-of-the-art treatments. Lexington Clinic was the first to bring a linac based stereotactic unit to Lexington and was the first to install a dedicated CT simulator for radiotherapy planning in Lexington.
In 1996, Lexington Clinic implemented a plan to bring the same high quality cancer care to patients in Eastern Kentucky. The Southeastern Kentucky Radiation Oncology Center was purchased and expanded in Corbin, Kentucky and was recently re-named the Southeastern Kentucky Cancer Center. This purchase was followed by construction of the Richmond Regional Oncology Center, which opened in Richmond, Kentucky in 1997. Both Centers were later expanded to include Medical Oncology services and offered patients the high quality cancer care they previously had to travel long distances to receive, in a convenient and comfortable setting close to home.
Lexington Clinic's rich history and commitment to excellence in health and patient care give us a unique insight into the communities we serve. We have been a leader in cancer care since 1983 and will continue to be a leader as we look to the future of cancer care.
Our Company, Extended Care House Calls (EC House Calls, ECHC), was founded by one Board Certified Internal Medicine Physician and two Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioners.
