Thomas Irvine McElroy built this beautiful Greek Revival Plantation Home on nearly 600 acres and presented it as a Wedding Gift to his young bride, Sarah Jane Maxwell. Lavished with numerous architectural features, it is accented with Italianate detail, spans over 7,000 sq. ft., with 14' ceilings, 12' doorways, 9' windows, 13 original rooms - most are 20' x 20' with some even larger, and a grand cherry floating spiral staircase.

Its colorful past includes stories of an Antebellum Plantation, use as a Civil War Confederate Encampment and Union Field Hospital, the Childhood Home to Phil Simms - former NY Giants Quarterback and Super Bowl XXI's MVP, a popular Dinner Hall, and a Foster Children's Home to over 300 children. Today it is an award-winning Bed & Breakfast, Wedding and Special Events Showplace, Alpaca & Llama Farm, and Fiber Farm Store: Manor Cottage Gifts.

This working farm is stately set on 15 tranquil acres in the heart of Kentucky's scenic Bluegrass Region (an hour southeast of Louisville and an hour southwest of Lexington), and the home is considered one of the best preserved Antebellum Homes in the Commonwealth. Attention to Detail
The main foyer (pictured here), which measures 12' wide and 45' long, is dominated by the original, freestanding, cherry spiral staircase and lighted by the smallest of three chandeliers from the early 1900s.
Awaken to the delightful strains of chamber music and the wafting aromas of freshly brewed coffee and hot-from-the-oven muffins, as the day begins with a specially prepared candle-light breakfast served on fine crystal, china, and linens in the formal dining room.
In the evening, relax with us in the Parlor under the soft light of the elegant Murano crystal chandelier and enjoy a complimentary homemade dessert and beverage. A spacious parlor/communal area offers cozy surroundings for a game of cards, puzzle making or curling up with a good book. A Baby Grand Piano is available for our guests to enjoy as well.

Relax at our peaceful, park-like setting. You will find double rockers on the front porch, garden benches, and a large patio area with tables and comfortable seating set among ancient maple trees. Stroll our flower gardens with Gazebo and multiple fountains and fish ponds, nature reserve, and orchard. Enjoy interacting and learning about our Alpacas & Llamas. Numerous bird feeders are located near the house attracting a variety of songbirds and hummingbirds. A picnic table and grill are available for guest use. Depending on harvest time, guests are welcome to pick from the 50+ orchard of apples, peaches, pears, cherries, and plums. We also grow grapes, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and an Herb Garden for Guest indulgence during breakfast. And of course, our Official Greeters and companion pets, Sophie and Sampson, our Golden Retrievers, are always available to you!
